ASPRI launches Digitalisation Readiness Index

The Association of Process Industry (ASPRI) recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary; the occasion was graced by Guest-of Honour, Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, in the presence of over 600 guests.

Accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and the growing urgency in addressing climate change, digitalisation and sustainability have found prominence in the national agenda with many organisations now embracing digitalisation and sustainability strategies.

The launch of the Process Construction and Maintenance (PCM) Industry Digitalisation Readiness Index (DRI) is significant, and will springboard the industry to a new level as the index provides guidance and industry benchmarking to each organization along their digitalisation and sustainability journey.

“Towards A Sustainable PRocess Industry”, the tagline unveiled during the gala dinner, signifies ASPRI’s aspirations for the process industry. To this end, ASPRI will set up a new chapter on sustainability with plans to recruit members, co-create and learn from experts across relevant sustainability themes and explore technologies that can be adopted in Singapore.

“The Energy and Chemicals sector is at the forefront of global decarbonisation goals,” said Mr Danny Chua, ASPRI’s newly elected President in his maiden speech. “We have seen Singapore’s commitment to this global effort with the announcement of the sustainable Jurong Island plan. Our clients have taken steps in support of this plan. Shell is building Asia’s largest pyrolysis oil upgrader unit for recycling plastic waste at Bukom. ExxonMobil’s had begun upgrading production facilities for low sulphur oil and marine lubricants in Singapore.

As plant owners continue researching and piloting solutions, it is also timely for the process industry to look at emerging opportunities and work in tandem with our clients to realise this transition. To this, ASPRI has come up with a 4C framework to support these efforts. These 4C are Carbon goals, Collaboration for Change, Capability Development and Champions for Sustainability.”
